Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall attended the 10th anniversary of Asian Women of Achievement Awards at the Park Lane Hilton on 20th May 2009. Brighton Festival Defies Economic Gloom
The 43 rd Brighton Festival runs from Saturday 2 – Sunday 24 May 2009 and brings over £20million of additional revenue to the local economy.
Despite the economic downturn, Brighton Festival has successfully secured sponsorship and corporate support of £700k equating to 30% of its total costs. This is an increase of 7% in cash on 2008 reflecting Brighton Festival's growing profile and significance as a major international cultural event.

The London Monument restoration unveiled
Specialist stonework and restoration contractor Cathedral Works Organisation (Chichester) Ltd and Julian Harrap Architects have successfully completed a £4.5 million restoration project of the Monument, London's memorial to The Great Fire of London and the world's tallest free-standing stone column. Funded by The City of London Corporation, the prestigious 18-month project began on 30th July 2007. CWO was the principal contractor under the direction of Julian Harrap Architects and Structural Engineers Hockley & Dawson. The Monument, a popular visitor attraction re-opened to the public on Monday 16th February 2009. |

Business Link rural workshops reach their century
Business Link has successfully notched up its 100th workshop as part of its inspirational Land Based Advisory Service. The 100th workshop entitled 'Climate Change' forms part of a series of workshops funded by SEEDA (South East of England Development Agency) that started in February 2008. More than 1500 managers and owners of rural businesses including farmers and growers, smallholders, florists, tree surgeons, garden centres and vets have benefited so far. Expert speakers at the workshops cover a number of very topical and important subjects that can have a great impact on rural businesses including the effects of climate change, use of alternative energies, water scarcity and how to tackle the planning process are all looked at in detail with lots of opportunity for in-depth discussion and sharing of experiences.
